Company edition overview

Who the Company edition is for, how the one organisation replaces customers, how your licence sets the edition, and what works the same as in the MSP edition.

Tenvara comes in two editions. The MSP edition is for a business that looks after many customers. The Company edition is for an internal IT team that looks after one organisation: its own. It is the same product, with the same service desk, device management, Microsoft 365, backup, security, documentation and projects, shaped around departments and employees in place of customers and contacts.

If you are just starting, read Getting started for IT teams first. It is the short way in. This section goes deeper.

Who it is for

The Company edition suits an IT department of any size that:

  • supports employees, not paying customers;
  • wants requests approved by the employee's manager before IT acts;
  • buys equipment and software and has to show what IT spends, by department;
  • has no use for quotes, contracts or invoices.

One organisation

A Company install has exactly one organisation. Everything belongs to it: sites, departments, employees, devices, tickets, documentation and backups.

  • The rail has Organisation where the MSP edition has Customers, and it opens the organisation's own page.
  • There are no customer lists, customer pickers or customer columns, and no customer switcher in the top bar. Nothing ever asks which customer you mean.
  • New sites, employees and devices belong to the organisation without you choosing it.

See The organisation, departments and employees.

How the licence sets the edition

The edition is not a setting you switch. It comes from your licence.

  1. Go to Settings > Licence.
  2. The page shows which edition your licence is for, beside your usage and modules.

A Company licence is for an install with one organisation. If a Company licence is offered to an install that already holds several customers, Tenvara refuses it and says why, because it cannot guess which customer should become the organisation.

Access to either edition is through the early access programme. See Joining the beta.

What is the same

Most of Tenvara works exactly as the other sections of this knowledge base describe. When a guide says "your customers", read it as your organisation and its departments, and "contacts" as employees.

Area In the Company edition
Service desk Tickets, email, chat, the service catalogue, information requests, problems, changes, status pages, identity checks and out-of-hours cover. SLA policies can go by priority, by department or for VIPs
Projects Internal projects with phases, tasks, templates and time
Devices The agent, remote control, patching, software, scripts, printers, phones and tablets
Alerts and monitoring Checks, alert rules, maintenance windows and on-call
Cloud Your own Microsoft 365 tenant: users, findings, email security, Intune, baselines and Enterprise apps
Infrastructure Hypervisors, Docker hosts, web servers, NAS and storage, virtual desktops, the network, domains and certificates, and connectivity
Security Detections, vulnerabilities, hardening, the remote access tool finder and AI readiness
Governance and compliance Your organisation's own programme. See What is different
Backup Devices, Microsoft 365 and restores
Docs Articles, documentation and one credentials vault
Team and Reports Scheduling, leave, timesheets, dashboards and the report builder

What it adds

Three things exist only in this edition:

  • Manager approvals. A request goes to the employee's department manager first, then to IT. See The employee portal and manager approvals.
  • The employee portal. The self-service portal, worded for employees, with equipment, software and access to ask for.
  • Purchasing and IT spend. Purchase requests that become purchase orders, and spend by department against your budget. See Purchasing and IT spend.

What it leaves out

Invoicing, payments, quotes, proposals, the sales pipeline, customer contracts, call billing and takeover mode are not part of this edition. They are absent from the menus, settings, reports, emails and PDFs, so there is nothing to switch off. What is different from the MSP edition has the full list.

Setting it up

A new Company install starts with the service desk and Devices, with the automation they need. Everything else, such as Microsoft 365, Backup, Security or Projects, is switched on when you are ready in Settings > Modules, one module at a time. See Modules.

The setup helper follows the edition. Discovery does not ask who you are, the plan leaves out the customer import, billing, sales and customer report sections, and your organisation stays in Getting started until you press We're live. See The setup helper and Go-live and Health.
